PostSubject: radar blocking   Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:10 am

a guy wrote a book in 86 about radar blocking and its a HUGE deal, lots of great info... built on making calls at the line by the OL... all on wrist coach... sort of like their own audibles for blocking...

i want to learn some more about this setup b/c i read a lot of people using it in a bunch of my coaching forums i frequent... but the book is out of print and the used books are RARE and go for $189 on amazon...

hoping maybe one of you guys have ever heard anything about the radar blocking setup...

example:

  1. “Red” – Blitz – Center will identify a Middle Blitz and adjust blocking based on the LBs
  2. “Yellow” – Help – Lineman will make a call to request double team help
  3. “EMU” – Outside – TE or End Man on Line EMOL will attack outside defender
  4. “Green” – Good - Lineman is ok and does not need help
  5. “Black” – Dummy Call – Does not mean anything
im going to teach full zone IZZY and OZZY (inside outside) and even our passing game which most will all be 3 steps... with a hitch and throw on last step we will full zone our passing scheme as well... but if i can find more on this radar blocking and the structure actually used i would love to look it over... pick and choose from it what i need... that would be GREAT... seriously...

keep an ear out and an eye out for the book.. "ATTACKING FOOTBALL DEFENSES WITH RADAR BLOCKING"

i am also thinking about incorporating the woody hayes sever angle blocking techniques into my zone schemes... zone blocking you have the play side 6" power step then either overtake the guy or move to LB... SAB... we can still take our 6" power step... but then EVERYONE drives @ 30° angles... kind of walling off play side... we can use a FB or a short motion to kick out and still give us that "zone" feel... something i will tinker with as i install this off-season and summer...

Here's a suggestion for you: push for a 'football class' when you get hired. You probably would need to spin it like a club or something. The coach at my last job had that the year before I was hired and it showed up big time the next year. Only he had it during weight training and somehow managed to get all of his football players in the same classes. I don't have much time right now to get into it, but will later.

The idea is to do alot of 'chalk talk' and basic football knowledge. I say this because you're going to need a lot of time to teach these kids your terminology--especially on the OL. I'll expand or respond to any questions you have. BTW, I don't think there's any rules against it.
