| i know of alot schools in oklahoma that have been doing this in not only football but as well for basketball baseball and softball so i thought i would share you guys how the smaller oklahoma schools build there programs.
3-4 grade football: the coach for this should be someone that is recomended from the HS head coach or someone from his staff. at this level winning shoundt be the biggest priority but more about the fun of the game meaning play every single player every game you dont wanna keep your best players in all the time and bench a player thats good player now but could be good later on and then him quiting the team and never playing again. the parents should be supportive and know for coaches of any sport that this is the hardest thing to put up with is the parents trying to tell the coaches what to do and how things should ran.
5-6 grade football: this is simular to 3-4 grade football you wanna a coach that is recomened by the HS HC and the game should be more about fun and playing every player. but at this level you start going over the same schemes with that the HS HC runs so they will be more familar with it at the next level.
JR high football: this when you start to more serious by running 4 pratices a day and start putting the players on a strenth and conditioning program. in oklahoma we have powerlifting meets to modivate the players to start lifting by rule to compete in powerlifting you must of be on the football the HS HC is also the HC at this level and coaches powerlifting as well powerlifting is also a fundraiser for the football program schools that host powerlifting meets make around 2k for both the JR high and HS powerlifting meets. a few schools did this including mine where the HC would make the players run track to improve there athletic ability.
HS football: this is as serious as it gets right here you've been teaching these the game since they were in the 3rd grade this is were everything pays off.
i hope this helps some of you coaches out there. at my school we dident have football until we got in 7th grade i played with the exact same players in 7th grade as i did in HS my fresh and SR we got to the state semi finals i often think how would it be if we would been taught the game at a early age and we do have a good football tradition. ______________________________________________ |

| 4 pratices a day in JR HIGH...LOL little much and around here I dont know any parent that would go for nor allow their child to do that...
BUT...were I grew up, and I started playing at the age of 5 yrs old which I banned now... They start learning the game early. By the time they get to middle school all the kids understand the basics of the offense and defense. Once in middle school they start learning a little more and by the next year they are in high school and some freshman are able to contribute right away.
But 4 practices a day is just ridiculous! I am in my 4th HIGH SCHOOL program (Coaching) and my 2nd State (VA & TN). I never heard of any school doing that nor would they. I've talked to other coaches around the southeast and not heard of it either.
However, I agree with everything else! ______________________________________________ SINGLE WING FOOTBALL, RELEASE THE BEAST! |
